Title I, Part A: College and Career Readiness
- Helps disadvantaged students acquire the knowledge and skills to meet challenging state academic standards that are expected of all children.
- Funds are generally used to improve academic achievement in reading and math.
Title I, Section 1003(g) School Improvements Grants (SIG)
- A subgrant under Title I, school improvement funds are intended to raise student achievement in the lowest performing five percent of schools in each state.
- Schools that receive grants under this program must implement one of four intervention models: school closure, restart, turnaround, or transformation.
21st Century Community Learning Centers, Title IV, Part B
- Established to provide academic enrichment activities during non-school hours, particularly to students in high-poverty areas and low-performing schools.
- Programs help students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects, and may offer education services to the families of participating students.
Race to the Top (RttT)
- Competitive funds awarded in multiple phases to states and districts leading the way in comprehensive education reform.
- Reforms are targeted for four areas: improvements in standards and assessment, building data systems to measure growth, effective teachers and leaders, and turning around lowest-performing schools.
Charter Schools
- States that have authorized the establishment of charter schools may apply.
- Funds are primarily used to plan, design, and implement new charter schools.
