Kathy has a BS from Eastern Kentucky University, and an M.Ed. from Miami University-Oxford in School Administration and Curriculum. After 31 years teaching second grade in Ohio's Edgewood City School district, Kathy became a Grades Preschool through 5 Technology Integration Specialist. She has taught and directed the Edgewood Summer Tech Academy for four years, and is also an Adjunct Instructor for Ashland University.
Kathy first saw Mimio at the Ohio E-Tech Conference in 2006, and says she was "instantly a believer." Since that time she has worked tirelessly to make sure there is a Mimio in every classroom in her district. She participated in the Beta Mimio Masters Program, and now holds monthly support group meetings to answer questions and provide new tips, lessons, and gallery files to the district's current Mimio users. She also teaches three levels of Mimio training at the Edgewood Summer Tech Academy. Since the district requires that teachers take the training before they can receive the Mimio hardware, there is always a waiting list for the summer Mimio classes.
Even though she is no longer a classroom teacher, Kathy says she cannot imagine teaching today's students without Mimio Interactive technology. She believes that it is every teacher's responsibility to keep up with 21st century learning and best teaching practices, and calls Mimio "a teacher's best friend" for helping students achieve learning goals.
Kathy was honored to be named Edgewood's first Teacher of the Year in 1981. She has been chosen to present at Ohio's E-Tech Conference, and she has received numerous grants to increase technology usage. While her most important outside interest is currently her 10-month-old granddaughter, Sarah, Kathy also loves to create Mimio lessons for teachers.
