Lorellyn provides library and information communications technology (ICT) support for teachers and students in years one to seven at Mindarie Primary School in Mindarie, Western Australia. In her 15 years of teaching, she has been amazed to see entire schools make the shift from simple 4 MB computers to complete state-of-the-art setups that make full use of interactive whiteboard (IWB) technologies. She says that having the opportunity to support educators as they learn to embrace these advancements has been "immensely satisfying."
Lorellyn is passionate about introducing ICT whenever possible into the teaching environment. She credits the cost-effectiveness of Mimio with making it possible to place a complete IWB setup in every classroom many years earlier than her school had originally hoped. She finds that the simplicity of the system helps both students and staff master the controls quickly. And extra tools like Mimio Capture and Mimio Pad have led to much wider use of ICT in both lesson planning and classrooms. She says the school is waiting impatiently for mimio's audience response system to arrive.
Lorellyn notes that educators are sometimes wary about new technology, but she loves showing them how easy Mimio is to operate and how much it raises their students' interest level. "It has been my privilege," she says, to have been involved in overseeing the school's efforts to put an IWB in every classroom.
A mother of two, Lorellyn enjoys spending time with them and her husband, and is a fan of Australian Rules football and cricket.
