In Roland's 18 years of teaching, he has served four years as a math teacher, five as Assistant Principal, seven as Principal, and two in his current position as IT Coordinator in the Fort Sam Houston Independent School District of San Antonio, Texas.
Roland says he is proud to serve the military dependents on the Fort Sam Houston Army Installation. He recognizes the unique challenges these children face, such as frequent moves and family deployment. "Military children sacrifice a lot for their families," he notes, "and it is my honor to 'serve those who serve.'"
Roland does all the Mimio training for his district, and finds that the teachers and students are equally excited about using Mimio in the classroom. He says that Mimio makes it easy to integrate whiteboard technology into any classroom at any level. He is quick to praise the ease of installation, simplicity of the interface, and wealth of shared lessons.
The Fort Sam Houston ISD has deployed Mimio Interactivebars in all Pre-K-1 classes, as well as in its high school. By next year, Roland expects all classrooms in the district to be equipped with a Mimio. He is pleased to have four fantastic student interns who have taught themselves all about Mimio and are now great assets to the teachers. "If I am a 'Mimio Master,'" he quips, "they are my 'Mimio Minions.'"
Roland has presented at TCEA, T+L, and NECC. He was a finalist for Texas Principal of the Year when he was a high-school Principal. In his spare time he enjoys "all things digital"-including photography, and confesses to a mediocre talent for guitar playing.
