Sara teaches Math, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Computer to fourth graders at the Seven Hills School in Cincinnati, Ohio. A teacher for eight years, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Ohio University, and an M.Ed. from University of Maryland University College, with a concentration in Instructional Technology.
"I have always really liked computers," Sara says, "and was always curious how to use resources on the computer and on the Internet to help children learn." Her master's program taught her how to use Instructional Technology. But she says that it wasn't until she used a Mimio interactive system that Instructional Technology really came alive for her.
Sara first started using a Mimio system in November of 2008. By October of 2009 she had completed the Mimio Masters program, and two months later was brought on as a Mimio Masters course moderator. She currently teaches the Mimio Masters advanced courses. She has been a member of the in-person training team for the final Mimio Masters course, and has also been a member of the teacher team for NCTM.
Sara uses her Mimio system every day of the school year, and raves about the many positive changes it has brought about in her students. "With all of the amazing capabilities of Mimio," she says, "I can see the lessons come to life and see the excitement in my students' eyes. Learning is fun, meaningful, and interesting again. They are all so excited to participate in the lesson, I have to keep a checklist to make sure everyone gets to participate an equal number of times.
"Another great thing that I get to see each day is how excited my colleagues are getting about Mimio and all of its possibilities in their own classrooms. I have had a chance to introduce them to many of the technology's exciting capabilities, and enjoy helping them learn to use it in their own classrooms."
