Tracy is Technology Facilitator at Riverwood Elementary School in Clayton, NC, and is also responsible for technology integration and technology
staff development. She holds a B.A. in Education from Clemson University and a M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from East Carolina University.
Six years ago she was handed a Mimio interactive device and an assignment: one week to learn how to use it and create a presentation for principals.
"A day was all I needed to get completely hooked," she says.
When the day of her presentation came, one week later, Tracy says she felt completely comfortable with the Mimio system. This alone spoke volumes to
the principals about how easy the learning curve would be for their staff members.
"I absolutely love my Mimio," Tracy says. "My students and I use it every day." She notes that it has now been six years since she started using the
device with the K-5 students, "and the students still get just as excited about it as they did the first time they used it. It brings lessons alive for
students and is so easy to use."
Her favorite tools include the multimedia reveal tools, the spinner, the timer, and the new cloning tool. She finds that the multimedia reveal tools
really enhance her lessons because they give the kids immediate feedback on whether they chose the correct answer. She also loves to order images or text
boxes behind an object such as a brown bag, so it looks as though she’s pulling items out of the bag. "The kids think it is some kind of magic!" she says.
Tracy loves the great lessons she can find on the MimioConnect™ website, and appreciates how
easily it allows teachers to share their work. "I am constantly downloading lessons," she says, and is pleased that she can edit any lesson to suit her needs.
She suggests that teachers look at lessons for other grade levels than their own and change them to create the lessons they want to teach.
A Mimio Master, Mimio Master Moderator, Mimio Teacher Team member, and DEN Star Educator, Tracy’s favorite hobbies include geocaching and reading.
