New School Year, New Technology at Keystone Oaks

Interactive whiteboards were installed in Keystone Oaks elementary classrooms over the summer.

August 28, 2013 — With a new school year comes new technology in Keystone Oaks classrooms.

Over the summer, the district installed Mimio Interactive Projectors—interactive whiteboards—in 42 classrooms across each of the district's three elementary schools.

Mainly, the system will be used to support the elementary schools' new reading curriculum, "Reading Wonders." However, the use of the projector extends beyond that piece of curriculum.

According to the district's website, Mimio devices project images onto a standard whiteboard, which already exists in many classrooms. This reduces the installation cost while keeping the traditional whiteboard space usable for the teacher.

The projector can display images and broadcast audio from a laptop, and can be connected wirelessly with an iPad to control the screen. Add-ons are available from Mimio to support document cameras as well as audience-engaging response systems.
