New Version of MimioCapture Ink Recorder Increases Ease of Use for Teachers
Updated ink capture system is portable and can be used in classrooms without a projector
CAMBRIDGE, MA — June 27, 2013 — Mimio, developer of the MimioClassroom™ family of interactive teaching technologies, has updated its award-winning MimioCapture™ ink recorder, improving its user-friendliness by making it portable and integrating its ink-capture functionality with the MimioTeach™ interactive whiteboard. The new MimioCapture recorder was unveiled earlier this week at the 2013 ISTE conference held in San Antonio, Texas.
When teachers use the MimioCapture recorder’s four dry erase Expo® pens to create multicolor notes and pictures on MimioTeach or MimioBoard™ interactive whiteboards, the system automatically saves the writing and images − in color – to the computer for reuse, student handouts or future editing. Whenever users switch between the marker pens and the interactive whiteboard stylus, the system will immediately recognize which tool they are using. The updated MimioCapture recorder includes a portable desktop charging station for easy recharging of the pens and accompanying eraser. Teachers simply plug the charging station into a computer with a USB connection.
Additionally, the MimioCapture recorder now comes with a convenient magnetic pen and eraser holder, which is designed to adhere to any steel surface so users can keep the dry erase pens within easy reach while at the board. The holder includes 3M® strips and metal plates, so that it can be attached to non-magnetic surfaces, as well.
“The goal of our updated ink recorder system is portability,” said Manny Perez, general manager of Mimio. “We’ve redesigned it so that a teacher can quickly put all the pieces into a tote bag and head off to another classroom.”
The MimioCapture recorder converts handwriting into font-based text with one click. This saving function enables teachers to build and refine a collection of lessons that they can use again and again. Teachers can save, edit and print their whiteboard notes in a variety of formats and give those notes and lessons to students to refer to later – or give them to students who missed the class.
The MimioCapture recorder integrates seamlessly with both the MimioTeach and MimioBoard interactive whiteboards, since they are both powered by the award-winning MimioStudio™ 11 classroom software. The recorder can be used whether a classroom is equipped with a projector or not.
“MimioCapture extends the functionality of the interactive whiteboards,” said Perez. “Teachers can review what they wrote, plus students’ contributions, in order to improve future lessons. Plus, since teachers can distribute the whiteboard notes and drawings, students can focus on interacting with learning materials and fully participating in class, instead of writing everything down.”
The MimioCapture package includes a table-top recharging station, magnetic pen and eraser holder, rechargeable eraser, and four ergonomic rechargeable dry erase markers in red, green, blue and black. Current MimioCapture users who want to move from the charging tray model to the new tabletop model can easily do so by ordering the desktop charger* and the wall-mount pen holder.
* The charging rings on the new MimioCapture pens are magnetic, but the original MimioCapture pens do not have magnetic rings. The new magnetic ring pens will be held more snugly to the charger.
