Newell Rubbermaid unit buys Headsprout
ATLANTA, GA – March 15, 2011 - DYMO/Mimio, an education unit of Atlanta-based Newell Rubbermaid Inc. (NYSE: NWL), bought Headsprout for an undisclosed amount.
Seattle-based Headsprout develops online reading programs for kids, DYMO/Mimio hopes to use Headsprout's education software to expand in more schools in the United States and overseas, according to TechFlash, a sister publication of Atlanta Business Chronicle.
"Headsprout's patented, research-based, adaptive software for online learning perfectly complements DYMO/Mimio's suite of interactive teaching technologies," said Headsprout CEO Dave Anderson, in a statement. "This union sets the stage for collaborative work intended to transform the nature of learning in the classroom, by increasing teacher effectiveness and student achievement through interactive learning."
By acquiring Headsprout, DYMO/Mimio will be able to combine Headsprout's online education content with Mimio's technology that allows teachers with a laptop and a projector to transform a classroom whiteboard into a computer screen, said DYMO/Mimio General Manager Laurence Huntley.
