DYMO/Mimio Announces School Grant Award Recipient
Colorado school – chosen from over 100 entries – receives free MimioClassroom™ products
Cambridge, Mass. - July 21, 2011 - DYMO™/Mimio® announced today that Mountain View Elementary School in the Adams 12 school district in Broomfield, Colo., has been selected as the inaugural recipient of a DYMO/Mimio Grant, as part of the interactive teaching technology provider’s new, competitive program open to all K-12 education entities.
As the winner of the DYMO/Mimio Science and Math Grant, Mountain View Elementary will receive several key elements of the MimioClassroom™ product suite for free, including 10 MimioTeach™ interactive systems, 10 MimioView™ document cameras and 10 MimioPad™ wireless tablets. The school also earns an on-site product demonstration and training session.
While the inaugural grant specifically highlighted science and math, future DYMO/Mimio grants will focus on other subject areas and themes.
"Winning a DYMO/Mimio Grant is exciting, as are the possibilities and opportunities it will open up for our students and staff," said Tracey Amend, principal, Mountain View Elementary. "The entire Mountain View community thanks DYMO/Mimio for generously presenting us with this useful and much-needed technology."
Mountain View Elementary was selected from more than 100 DYMO/Mimio Science and Math Grant entries, many of which were embellished with creative videos, art work and other materials. The criteria for selection included a detailed plan of how the school would use the technology and a description of the school’s financial needs. The inaugural winner was chosen by an external panel of industry experts.
According to Magen McGahee, Leader – Federal Programs and District Initiatives for DYMO/Mimio, the Mountain View Elementary entry stood out with its thorough, creative and original entry, which included a detailed account of the school’s strategy for implementing the technology.
"Mountain View provided a clever and compelling project plan, and we could see just how receptive they are to our interactive teaching technology," said McGahee. "We are delighted that the faculty and students of Mountain View will be able to use our technology through the DYMO/Mimio Grant to experience the creative benefits of interactive learning."
Mountain View serves a population of approximately 680 students in preschool through fifth grade, and includes students from diverse backgrounds. It is also the home of one of the largest deaf and hard of hearing center school programs in Colorado, an audience that relies heavily on visual learning and who will benefit from the interactive MimioClassroom products, according to Amend.
DYMO/Mimio is currently accepting applications for its Jump Start Grant, which focuses on how a school with technology needs could utilize DYMO/Mimio interactive teaching technology. The Jump Start Grant winner will be announced in late September. For entry guidelines and Jump Start Grant award details, please visit www.mimio.com/grants.
Driven by MimioStudio 7 software, the MimioClassroom product suite is used with the MimioTeach™ interactive whiteboard system. Teachers may also combine the other elements from the product suite — the MimioVote™ assessment system, MimioView™ document camera, MimioPad™ wireless tablet and MimioCapture™ ink recording system — to create interactive lessons with easy-to-use technology.
DYMO/Mimio users can also download MimioStudio™-compatible lessons from the MimioConnect™ community website, an online forum where educators can share content and ideas with their peers, as well as participate in online training in a variety of languages. Since its launch less than two years ago, the MimioConnect community has already amassed more than 75,000 members worldwide and has more than 4,600 lessons available for use.
