DYMO/Mimio Names "Bridging the Gap" Technology Grant Winners

Educators in Mississippi and Texas Win Free Interactive Hardware and Software Tools

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 9, 2012 -- DYMO/Mimio announced today two K-12 educators in Mississippi and Texas have been awarded the "Bridging the Gap" grant. This grant from interactive teaching technology provider DYMO/Mimio provides the winners with elements of the MimioClassroom(TM) product suite along with Headsprout reading software for their schools.

Marcie Lindsey, technology facilitator for Mitchell Elementary of Georgetown ISD in Georgetown, Texas, and first grade teacher Angela Victory of New Albany Elementary in the New Albany School District in New Albany, Miss., were named winners of the coveted education technology grant.

This latest endowment in the DYMO/Mimio classroom technology grant series is the first to incorporate Headsprout Reading Comprehension tools, providing research-based instruction that teaches learners how to comprehend text in an engaging, interactive and personalized environment. The program features a patented adaptive design that identifies and tracks error patterns for each user and immediately adjusts instruction to address any weaknesses.

In addition to receiving five licenses to set up classrooms in their district with Headsprout Reading Comprehension, Lindsey and Victory each won five MimioTeach(TM) interactive systems, which transform any dry erase whiteboard into a fully-interactive whiteboard, five MimioPad(TM) wireless tablets that allow users to interact with their MimioTeach-enabled whiteboard from anywhere in the classroom, and five MimioView(TM) document cameras, which feature simple plug-and-play integration with the rest of the product suite. Each winner will also receive on-site training with a DYMO/Mimio Teaching and Learning Specialist.

"More than ever, we're looking forward to motivating our students and fully engaging them in the learning process with an exciting multimedia experience using the DYMO/Mimio products, "said Lindsey. "Our teachers are also eager to participate in the training and coaching session and apply the new skills to teaching our students across every grade level."

"Bridging the Gap" grant applicants had to demonstrate how they will blend individual student instruction through Headsprout Reading Comprehension software with group-focused lessons taught using DYMO/Mimio hardware, creating a complete classroom solution and "bridging the gap" across multiple levels of learning. Their applications also had to exhibit unique approaches to creatively engage students using interactive teaching technology, along with a detailed description of the proposed project, including specifics about the needs of the school or district and dissemination plans.

"Through their applications, these winners clearly demonstrated their commitment to helping improve their students' reading comprehension," said Magen McGahee, Leader of Federal Programs and District Initiatives for DYMO/Mimio. "We hope that with these DYMO/Mimio interactive tools, they are able to create a dynamic classroom experience and continue the great work they are already doing."

Lindsey's team of third grade teachers at Mitchell Elementary will incorporate the technology into their instructional plans, while Victory will use her products throughout first grade classrooms at New Albany Elementary.

"With increasing standards for public education and the desire for teachers to reach all learners, it is important that teachers are equipped with the tools and technology we need to best teach our students," said Victory. "With the addition of this impressive technology, we will have the resources to meet the needs of all learners while improving technology literacy."
