Press Release: Mimio Brings 21st Century Learning Solutions to Quincy Public Schools Ability of Interactive Teaching Technology to Engage Students and Differentiate Instruction Leads to Decision to Expand Implementation to 198 Classrooms

eSchool News - August 17, 2012

CAMBRIDGE, MA – August 17, 2012 — A new district-wide technology initiative finds Quincy Public Schools standardizing on Mimio Interactive Teaching Technologies by expanding the implementation of the solution across nearly 200 classrooms district wide during the 2012-2013 school year. Having recognized the significant impact in the initial use of the popular MimioTeach interactive whiteboards in several classrooms, district officials decided to replicate the installation by placing MimioClassroom products in the district’s 17 schools.

“Our schools possess a long-standing tradition for innovative curriculum and excellence in public education,” said Keith Segalla, Quincy Public Schools Executive Director of Career and Technical Education and Instructional Technology. “We are committed to equipping our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in the 21st Century and strive to provide our teachers with state-of the-art equipment and training in order to enhancing classroom learning. We can accomplish all of that with Mimio.”

MimioClassroom products include the MimioTeach™ interactive whiteboard, which converts any dry erase board into a fully-interactive whiteboard; MimioVote™ assessment; MimioView™ document camera; MimioPad™ wireless pen tablet; and MimioCapture™ ink recorder. Each MimioTeach comes pre-packaged with the award-winning MimioStudio™ classroom software, which is compatible with Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems, and is available in 33 languages, so teachers worldwide can generate localized activities.

“We only started using Mimio late in 2011 but our teachers immediately loved the participatory nature of the teaching solution – it engaged their students more actively and it brought their existing lessons to life,” added Segalla. “I realized that almost from the instant they turned them on that it was so easy for teachers to immediately begin using the technology. That’s when I knew we were going to be full steam ahead with implementing this solution in every classroom.”

As part of the city’s school technology initiative, Quincy Public Schools used a portion of the recently awarded Comcast Grant to fund the technology investment.
